We had a good plan, but God had a better plan.
One of our members was recently part of a small team of international delegates, who assisted the local Gideons in a concentrated campaign to distribute over 266,000 Bibles in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in one short week.
He said: “We were continually encouraged during the week by God’s faithfulness. On arrival, we learned that strikes had been planned throughout the education system, and we did not know what impact it would have on the planned school distributions. In the strength of His might (Ephesians 6:10) the teams pressed forward and new, unplanned opportunities came to the fore.
When confronted with some empty schools, the team stopped to pray, the phone rang and a new plan emerged. Nearby, in a Muslim neighbourhood, there were several schools where the Gideons had not been able to get access over several years. So, in the shadow of minarets, the team stepped out with overwhelming results! We were able to speak in every classroom, and offer God’s Word to students and teachers alike. We had a good plan, but God had a better plan”.
Our member remarked that what touched him most in Côte d’Ivoire, was the eagerness of the people to receive a copy of God’s Word. He had never experienced that before. This challenged him about his own expectations when offering a Bible or New Testament to a fellow Aussie here at home. “Am I doing all I can to communicate the value and life changing power that can be found in this small gift?”
