A number of our members have been on a safari making their way from Queensland, through the Northern Territory to WA, where they will eventually end up in Perth. They are distributing Bibles and New Testaments in hotels, hospitals and schools and are witnessing as they go. Here is some of their feedback to date:
“We have experienced some real blessings along the way so far. All placements to date have been welcomed and well received in every community. We have had many witnessing opportunities and encounters that can only be attributed to God's intervention. One of our prayers has been for the arrival of Scriptures in Bamaga as we understood that they had been delayed. However, the barge carrying the Scriptures arrived at the dock as we drove into town!
We had a fantastic day in Bamaga, distributing over 680 Scriptures in total, which is equal to over 25% of the population in the Northern Peninsula Area. There is a real hunger for Scriptures and the local Christians are really appreciative of our contributions in the local communities. All Scriptures taken to the school were accepted by students and staff. None left.
God has opened so many doors and connected us with all the right people at the right time.
On 18 July we distributed over 900 Scriptures on Thursday Island, 400 at the high school. God is good. We were concerned that the Scriptures might not arrive on Thursday Island in time, as things move slowly up here. But once again God provided and the Scriptures were there before we got there
In Kununurra, which has a population of 5,300, we had the privilege to distribute 971 copies of God’s Word”.
Please continue to pray for this initiative.
Thank you for praying for our Breakthru Adelaide: Share Jesus campaign, which took place earlier this year!
Praise God for the distribution of Scriptures to every corner of the city!
Over 2,200 sites were visited.
The Breakthru teams personally shared their faith and distributed almost 25,000 Bibles and New Testaments. Many Christians reacted with thanks, praise and real excitement for what we were doing. The impact continues to ripple through the city.
Many, many decisions for Christ were made during that week. This is the story of one such decision:
Robert was on his way to the library on the campus of the University of Adelaide, when he encountered one of our members distributing New Testaments.
Robert is from Nairobi, Kenya. A student, but he had some issues in his life. In fact he was just out of hospital and needed new accommodation. He was looking for peace, as things weren't going well.
The Gideon discussed a few of the questions from the book ‘Share Jesus without Fear’ with him.
He definitely had spiritual beliefs.
If he died that night he "wanted to be with Jesus”
He needed salvation, he needed assurance.
Then they read through the plan of salvation together, step by step.
“Yes”, he said he wanted to pray the sinner’s prayer.
Robert gave his life to Jesus.
He left smiling, holding tight onto his New Testament, his name in the front, the back page and in the book of life.
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
We had a good plan, but God had a better plan.
One of our members was recently part of a small team of international delegates, who assisted the local Gideons in a concentrated campaign to distribute over 266,000 Bibles in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in one short week.
He said: “We were continually encouraged during the week by God’s faithfulness. On arrival, we learned that strikes had been planned throughout the education system, and we did not know what impact it would have on the planned school distributions. In the strength of His might (Ephesians 6:10) the teams pressed forward and new, unplanned opportunities came to the fore.
When confronted with some empty schools, the team stopped to pray, the phone rang and a new plan emerged. Nearby, in a Muslim neighbourhood, there were several schools where the Gideons had not been able to get access over several years. So, in the shadow of minarets, the team stepped out with overwhelming results! We were able to speak in every classroom, and offer God’s Word to students and teachers alike. We had a good plan, but God had a better plan”.
Our member remarked that what touched him most in Côte d’Ivoire, was the eagerness of the people to receive a copy of God’s Word. He had never experienced that before. This challenged him about his own expectations when offering a Bible or New Testament to a fellow Aussie here at home. “Am I doing all I can to communicate the value and life changing power that can be found in this small gift?”
“… for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16
Did you know?
The Gideons International is distributing Scriptures in The People’s Republic of China, and to date, has distributed more than 3.7 million copies in 14 different provinces.
These Scriptures are distributed by international Gideon teams and also made available for distribution through Christians who own and manage businesses.
We praise God for the open doors across Asia where one out of every three people live.
For example, last year over a million Scriptures per month were placed in India, and we thank you for helping make this possible.
Our next major metropolitan Scripture project will be Breakthru Adelaide in early 2017.
Adelaide: flooded with the Word of God, turning to God.
The Church: united in prayer, coming together in one body, fearlessly sharing His Word, and rediscovering the joy of leading others to Christ.
